This episode features a series of interviews with artists presenting dance and movement work at the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival this year. We begin with Jake Hastey, who is the Artistic Director of Toy Guns Dance Theatre. The company is presenting two different shows as a part of the festival, Propylene Glycol, Maltodextrin, Retinol Palmitate, and Other Words I Don’t Understand Like Love & Red Wine, French Toast, and The Best Sex You’ve Ever Had. From the company Not Just Lucky, choreographer Tara Gaucher and dancer Christine Birch describe their show The Wild. Robin Toller and Sarah Illiatovitch-Goldman speak about their movement play, Hospital by Smoke and Ash Productions. Bronwyn Steinberg blends yoga and theatre in OCCUPY ME by the company, Counterpoint Players. Ariole Alei (Ariole Alei Dance) is generous with her heart in there’s a camel on my back, and just as lovely and open in our interview. Melisa Boose represents her company, Breath in Mvmt., and their fringe show, Grey Matter(s). Claire Patton and Lucia Rich from Quake Theater explore physical theatre and more in The Awkward Art of Flying. Leah Patterson and Chelsea Preston from Synaethesis Dance Theatre tell us about their show, Letters and Words. Again, we finish this episode with a discussion about the For Body and Light tour experience between Allison Burns, Linnea Gwiazda and Stéphanie Morin-Robert.
